Models Own have done it again! This time they have released what is possibly my favourite collection to date - and that's saying something when I have waxed lyrical about all the Hypergel polishes. On Friday they announced the Colour Chrome Collection* - ten metallic foil effect nail polishes. I've been waiting for some metallic polishes from Models Own for a while, so it is exciting that they have now delivered them! The formula is consistent across all the polishes (the five I was sent to review anyway) and it paints on really smoothly and isn't streaky. They suggest that you buff your nails first and don't use a base coat or top coat (which is standard for foil/metallic polishes) and use 2-3 coats to 'help increase durability'.
Just look how stunning the bottles alone are:
Olive, Indigo, Mauve, Rose and Cerise
You're here for the swatches, so without further ado...
Olive
Olive* is, unsurprisingly, a very pale olive green. I'm not a green-wearer usually so I thought this would be my least favourite of the five - but I was really pleasantly surprised by how subtle and wearable the green is.
Cerise
Cerise* is a dark pink - and I was really impressed by how pigmented the colour is in this polish. Often with metallic polishes I've found that the colour pay off isn't particularly good - but that is definitely not the case with Cerise!
Mauve
Mauve* is the purple polish of the collection. I do love a purple polish and this is no exception. Mauve is a good name for it - it's purple with a hint of grey which makes it a sophisticated shade of purple. Absolutely one of my favourites!
Indigo
Indigo* is a grey blue polish. As much as blue is my favourite colour, I actually don't wear it on my nails that much because I feel it's a bit unnatural (says the girl who often has three or four different colours on her nails at the same time...?!) - but what I like about this one is that it's understated in colour - but the foil finish it has really makes it look like liquid metal. One of my favourites.
Rose
Rose* is a dusky pink rose gold polish. I saved my favourite to last - I'm a huge fan of rose gold at the moment (who isn't? It seems to be everywhere) so it's a very welcome addition to my collection. It's not so pink that it's super girly, but I love that it's so delicate.
*Update - I bought the other 5 in the collection in the Models Own 50% off sale... so here are the swatches!*

Any good for stamping? I know quite a lot of people are interested to know whether they stamp well, so I had a quick go yesterday and you can see the results here on Instagram. In short - they work brilliantly well for stamping. (As a side note I did find that some of the stamping patterns rubbed off over the course of the evening - I'm not sure it was because I used Seche Vite over my black base coat before I stamped or not - but it might be worth trying a top coat over the top to stop it rubbing off).
Overall verdict? These are absolutely sublime - from the formula, through the colour, to the flawless finish (and the fact they are so great for stamping). I will definitely be grabbing the rest of the ten when they come out later this month. One thing perhaps it would be wise to note is that metallic polishes as a general rule are not known for their hard-wearing qualities - hence why 2-3 coats of these are suggested - I wore Indigo yesterday and by the end of the evening there were a few signs of wear at the tips. That said, I adore them and in all honesty they're probably a night-out polish rather than a polish that you'll want to last you all through the working week.
Availability? From www.modelsownit.com from 29th January (incidentally the day the Models Own 50% off sale starts - there will be a limited number of the Colour Chromes available, so be quick!). They'll be available from Models Own Bottleshops on 31st January and Superdrug stores nationwide on 11th February. Colour Chromes are £4.99 each.

I love Rose, Indigo and Mauve! Beautiful swatches :)
ReplyDeleteLove love love these :) the rose one is my fave too x
ReplyDeleteI reacted a bit like we do to fireworks, ooh for the first colour, ahh for the next. Probably a good job I was alone when I read your post!
ReplyDeleteLovely way to start my Sunday morning - thank you so much. I loved the post :-)
Ooh Rose has definitely caught my eye! I love the look of a rose gold shade Essie released in the past that I don't think you can get any more, so I've been looking for a reasonably priced alternative. I'm considering trying to grab a few of these in their sale launching at the end of the month, if the site doesn't crash with people trying to buy them/they set a minimum spend again x

Possibly Essie Penny Lane? I have that one - it's a bit more coppery though. I think MO are doing a minimum order of 5 polishes to qualify for 50% off xx
DeleteYes I think that was the one. 5 isn't too bad, I'll have to see how many spare pennies I have when the sale finally gets here :) xx
DeleteRose is gorgeous! Can't wait to get my hands on these :)
ReplyDeleteOh no, I think I have fallen for these hard... damn your gorgeous swatches!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, lovely, I WANT THEM!!! Great swatches, thanks for sharing x
ReplyDeleteI love that you got the other five polishes in the collection from me :D I really love the Rose shade, I'll definitely be picking that up in the sale but they're all gorgeous, I'm surprised by the pigmentation in Cerise as well, looks fabulous :D
