Indy Best: Top Nail Polishes for the Party Season

Today is a pretty exciting day for me - because my article '11 Polishes for the Party Season' is in the Indy Best section of the Independent.  If you've hopped over here from there, welcome to Fundamentally Flawless!  I wanted to swatch all the polishes* I've featured in the piece to give a better idea of colours and finishes...

Barry M Silk Nail Paint Poppy

Poppy is a matte holo polish, one of Barry M's autumn releases and a lovely Christmas red, the matte finish giving it an understated festivity.  £3.99 from Boots and Superdrug.

Butter London West End Wonderland

West End Wonderland has long been a favourite polish of mine from way back when I started becoming properly addicted to nail polish a couple of years ago.  The photos above don't really do it justice, but in my eyes it is the ultimate glitter polish for the party season and I find it hard not to wear it all the time in December.  At £12 it's not the cheapest polish, but that depth of glitter and sparkle is totally worth all the extra pennies.  Here on Amazon.  (Check it out on Instagram in my 9th  December and 10th December Advent Nails).

Ciate Fade to Greige

Fade to Greige is not my usual colour choice - I'm more of a bright colours person, but this is a lovely colour for the more discerning polish wearer!  Greige is totally in this season and this one is a slightly mauvey one which makes it a little unusual.  Currently half price on BeautyBay.com, at £4.50 this is a steal.

Essie Summit of Style

Summit of Style is also not done justice by these photos.  It's a copper/bronze-toned mixed glitter topper.  Larger hex glitter and smaller dots in a clear base - this looks lovely over a white base but it also looked really sophisticated over a red base, too.  £7.99 in Superdrug.

Eve Snow Prima Donna

Prima Donna is another one of my absolute faves from my top 11 as I love a metallic polish, especially in winter.  This sits between silver and gold and has an almost chrome-like finish in the light.  Eve Snow isn't a brand I had come across before I started writing this piece, but it's become a firm favourite.  I also tried Racey and Wanderlust and have been drawn back to them more than once.  £14 from EveSnow.com.

Leighton Denny Click Click Flash Flash

Click Click Flash Flash is one of the Hollywood Collection, a collection of 6 delightfully party-appropriate polishes.  This one was my favourite from the bunch, because how could I not include a green in a Christmas piece?!  This one has a stunning depth of subtle glitter and looks really beautiful when light is shining on it.  £11 from LeightonDenny.com.

Revlon Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts sadly just didn't want to photograph in a colour-accurate way I'm afraid.  These colours show it much brighter than it actually is - it's really a lovely crimson colour.  I loved the Colorstay Gel Envy formula, which has basecoat in it and I found it lasted chip-free for a good three days (which for me is impressive, just call me Cinders).  I'll definitely be trying out more of the Colorstay range.  £6.99 from Boots.

Nails Inc Kensington Church Street Snowflake

Kensington Church Street Snowflake was the first polish I thought of when I started thinking about this piece.  It just screams winter and big fluffy cashmere jumpers and snow!  It's essentially a glitter topper - in that you really need to wear it over some sort of base coat - it has big and little white glitters in a clear base which has a very fine glitter shimmer in it.  Above I'm wearing it over Nails Inc Alexa Edit Winter Lilac, which I've swatched below too just because I love it so much too - it's a grey blue and a perfect accompaniment to Snowflake.  Snowflake is £16 from NailsInc.com and Winter Lilac comes as part of the Alexa Chung hearts Nails inc Collection £45 also from NailsInc.com.

Models Own Oval Plum

Oval Plum is one of the autumn's Diamond Luxe collection, ten polishes all containing very fine diamond dust.  I swatched five from the collection here when they came out (I've done the others, I just haven't managed to post them yet!)  I've said it before and I'll say it again, Models Own polishes, in my opinion, are genuinely the best value and quality polishes on the market - and they are a total steal at just £4.99 each.  Actually, Models Own have currently got a 6 for £20 offer (until December 19th 2014) on modelsownit.com so I suggest you hop on over there pronto and bag yourself an early Christmas present - you won't be disappointed.  Whilst you're there, I suggest you pick up Marquise Maroon from the Diamond Luxe collection, Roxy from the Disco Pants collection and Brunette Red from the Hypergels.

No 7 Stay Perfect Purple Cracker

Purple Cracker is a stunner - just look how much it shimmers.  A really regal purple, lovely for the party season.  No 7 also have two other limited edition releases for the party season which come in cute little boxes and make perfect stocking fillers.  £6.99 from Boots (in store only).

Topshop Exhibit

Exhibit is a really gorgeous sophisticated dark red, in the same vein as Chanel's Rouge Noir, which is one of my favourite ever polishes - but this is a slightly more interesting colour as it's visibly more red but has a brown tint to it.  Quite unusual, but really wearable.  £6 from Topshop.

If you've not been here before, stay a while and have a wander around my other nail art posts!  Or you can find me here on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

*All the polishes in this post were provided as samples for the piece
